Bills almost open second half with wild special teams touchdown

The Buffalo Bills went into the third quarter leading the Houston Texans 13-0 and almost might have put a dagger in this one. The Bills kicked off to open the half and the Texans returner tossed the ball to the ground. A Bills defender ran down and picked up the ball and it was ruled a score.

The referees huddled however and decided the returner had in fact given himself up. He did not make the normal fair catch signal, but did seem to wave toward his defenders that he was not going to return the ball. He went to toss the ball to the ref, who ignored him and ruled the ball live. However, common sense prevailed in what would have been an insane opening to the second half.

The Texans opened the half as 4.5-point favorites in the second half, and almost blew it right off the bat. They eventually went three and out and punted, so this could still go further south, but for the time being it was not a complete disaster.
