Houston Rockets C Clint Capela is drawing interest from several teams, most notable the Atlanta Hawks, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Friday. Capela is said to be unlikely to be traded before the deadline on Feb. 6 at 3:00 p.m. ET. This is nothing new from the Hawks, however, since we know they want to add talent to their core of Trae Young and John Collins. Adding a big man to pair with Collins has been a priority.
The most notable part of the report is that apparently teams are asking Atlanta about Collins and where the two stand. It’d be surprising if Collins was moved, since he’s viewed as part of the future with Young. Capela is set to make $17.5M next season and the salary jumps up in each the two seasons until his contract is up after 2022-23. It’s a friendly contract and may be the only way the Rockets can add depth to their roster.
