Top DFS punt plays on 49ers roster for Super Bowl 54

Here, we will take a look at some potential punt play options on the San Francisco 49ers’ roster. A punt play is a low-cost play that allows fantasy owners to invest more in other areas of their roster.

Matt Breida ($3,200 FLEX; $4,800 CP)

Breida’s playing time has fallen off lately, and he played just two total snaps in the 49ers’ conference championship game after opening the season playing 29 total snaps in Week 1. However, Breida is capable of ripping off big runs and is one of the most efficient backs in the league, averaging over five yards per carry in each of his last two seasons. Breida reached a league-high 22.3 mph on an 83-yard touchdown run back in Week 5, the fastest top speed recorded by any ball carrier during the regular season, which sheds some light on his explosive big play ability. The 49ers, who are run-heavy, can tend to ride the hot hand out of the backfield, and if Breida is having success, San Francisco could elect to keep feeding him the ball, especially with Tevin Coleman’s (shoulder) status uncertain. Breida carries risk due to uncertain playing time, but as the cheapest of the trio of running backs in the 49ers’ backfield, he is a punt play option.

49ers DST ($3,600 FLEX; $5,400 CP)

Facing a behemoth Chiefs offense is a tough task for any defense, as Kansas City’s explosive offense can result in massive point-scoring in short spurts. QB Patrick Mahomes also does not turn the ball over much, throwing just five interceptions in 14 games. However, the 49ers may have the skills to slow this offense. For one, the 49ers can generate pressure without blitzing, highlighted by potent edge rushers in Dee Ford and Nick Bosa, along with end Arik Armstead moving inside on passing downs. The 49ers were also strong at preventing success on deep balls, which could help cut down some of the explosive nature of the Kansas City offense. Using any DST against the Chiefs is a big risk, but the 49ers match up against Kansas City about as well as anyone due to their ability to rush the passer with four and limit big plays on passes downfield.

Kyle Juszczyk ($1,200 FLEX; $1,800 CP)

Juszczyk, San Francisco’s Pro Bowl fullback, has seen more playing time in the playoffs, playing on over 70% of snaps in each of the 49ers’ first two playoff games after generally sitting in the 50% range during the regular season. Juszczyk’s fantasy value is limited by his blocking role, but he does occasionally see red zone touches, both on the ground and on targets in the passing game. With the 49ers’ running backs commanding strong attention from the defense, Juszczyk could get free in the red zone off a play action target. Juszczyk got into the end zone twice in 12 games during the regular season.
