Running back play will be important for the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 54. The Chiefs really only use Damien Williams at running back, and he’s proven to be a versatile option that can go between the tackles and catch passes out of the backfield. The 49ers have used a combination of backs, but their depth chart for Sunday is still up in the air with Tevin Coleman recovering from a dislocated shoulder. We broke down how you should play these two running back’s in Showdown contests this weekend.
Fantasy football analysis: Chiefs RB Damien Williams and 49ers RB Raheem Mostert
Williams ($14,700/$9,800) is enjoying his best stretch of the year, as he’s scored four touchdowns in two postseason appearances. He’s only totaled 92 yards on the ground, but has three rushing scores. His fourth score was a touchdown catch. Despite getting a modest number of carries as Kansas City’s only useful running back, he’s averaging nearly 25 DKFP in his last four games. His lack of competition and the spacing of the Chiefs’ helps him capitalize on every opportunity he gets. That’s hard to pass up.
Mostert ($14,100/$9,400) had one of the most astonishing fantasy performances we’ve seen this year in the NFC title game, but it’s unlikely he’ll follow up that 56.6-point outing with something comparable. Coleman ($9.600/$6,400) received favorable MRI results following his dislocated shoulder and is back at practice this week, which could affect Mostert’s number of touches. Neither Mostert or Williams have been consistent throughout an entire season, but both are hot right now.
