Report: Teams doing due diligence on availability of Kyle Kuzma

Lakers would be hard-pressed to find a deal that makes sense for the young forward, but teams are still calling about the 24-year-old.

The Los Angeles Lakers are getting calls from teams interested in SF/PF Kyle Kuzma, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported. Shams cites that the teams are calling as “due diligence” and that doesn’t mean the 24-year-old is even remotely available on the market. But it’s still worth noting that Kuzma’s name keeps popping up.

The report also states that Kuzma is apart of the Lakers’ core future and Los Angeles is looking into making moves that would add depth to the roster, not ship out young talent. Kuzma has taken a backseat in the offense with the addition of Anthony Davis, and it’s taken time for him to adjust. He’s averaging just 12.2 points per game in 25 games this season, missing plenty of games due to injuries.

But the key here is that the Lakers remain atop the Western Conference at 27-7 led by LeBron James and eventually Kuzma is going to find his game and become a key component in a run at the NBA Finals. For that reason, it doesn’t appear Kuzma will be dealt, but it also doesn’t seem like teams are going to stop calling.
