The Atlanta Hawks remain active on the trade market ahead of the deadline in February, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported. The Hawks are apparently looking for help at center and in the backup point guard department. This makes a lot of sense considering their roster as currently constructed. Right now, DeAndre Bembry and rookie Cam Reddish are essentially serving as the primary backup guards off the bench behind Trae Young.
As for center, the Hawks have John Collins as the focal point in the frontcourt, but behind him it gets bleak. Bruno Fernando and Damian Jones are the other bigs and the loss of Dewayne Dedmon has been felt throughout the team and locker room this season. A reunion with Dedmon is possible since he’s spoken out about wanting a trade from the Sacramento Kings. Thunder C Steven Adams is also a name that has been linked to the Hawks.
There’s a lot of disconnect in the Hawks’ locker room, per The Athletic’s report. At 7-27, the Hawks are the bottom of the NBA, and while it mentions no one thought Atlanta would be playoff contenders, Young and Collins specifically didn’t expect to be this bad. So the Hawks will apparently look for help rather than shipping players out to retain assets.
