Tight end rankings for Super Bowl 54

In context, the tight end position has the most talent as a group for Super Bowl 54. These two tight ends both broke Rob Gronkowski’s receiving yardage record for tight ends last season, with Kittle nosing Kelce out for the record. You can’t get much better than these two.

Kittle has been relegated to being primarily a blocker so far in the playoffs while Kelce had a monster game, scoring three touchdowns against the Texans, and then a down game against the Titans.

1. Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs

We know that Kelce will get targets, as he’s the Chiefs leading and most-targeted receiver. There is a chance that Kittle continues to run block, as there’s no reason to change things up if it is working. The 49ers pass rush is one of the best in the business, so, if they are getting to Mahomes, Kelce is likely going to get

Kelce remains the most consistent fantasy tight end in the league. His touchdowns took a hit this season with Patrick Mahomes missing some time and playing through injuries, but he led the league in receptions and receiving yards. Kittle probably has the ability to surpass Kelce, but he likely won’t get used as consistently.

2. George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers

The hope is that Mahomes and company can put up points on this 49ers defense, forcing them to pass more than they have so far in the playoffs. The Chiefs run defense has improved a bit, the over/under is at 54-points and Mahomes can put points up quickly, so it goes to reason that Kittle will be asked to do his usual.

Both the Chiefs and 49ers have the ability to stop tight ends, but if Andy Reid or Kyle Shanahan want to get their stud tight ends the ball, they’ll get them the ball. For the Super Bowl, it all comes down to how much Kittle is needed as a receiver.

3. Blake Bell, Kansas City Chiefs

After Kittle and Kelce, no other tight end sees enough work to take much of a risk on, but Bell did have a touchdown in the Divisional round against the Texans. He also consistently gets one or two targets per game, with 2, 3, 2, 2 and 0 over the last five. It’s not much, but that’s more consistency than you’ll find with some of the risky punt plays that you might be enticed into playing for the Super Bowl.

4. Levine Toilolo, San Francisco 49ers

Toilolo has overtaken Ross Dwelley in snaps, but doesn’t have a target since October. But, if you’re hoping for an off the wall touchdown from anyone, Toilolo should be on the field more than Dwelley this Sunday.
