The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers square off in Super Bowl 54 on Sunday, February 2nd. We’re starting with a player-by-player preview for the skill position players on the two teams.
Kendrick Bourne is perhaps one of the most touchdown-dependent wide receivers in the NFL. The good news here: He’s good at catching touchdowns! In fact, he has caught six touchdowns with only 34 total receptions this year. That means he caught a touchdown for every 5.7 receptions. Is he worth adding to your DFS lineups this weekend? We break down the fantasy football implications below.

Season performance
Bourne has been used somewhat sporadically throughout the season. He has a lot of competition for targets in an offense that needs to feed George Kittle, Emmanuel Sanders, rookie breakout star Deebo Samuel, and several pass catching running backs. He averaged 6.2 points per game and 22.4 yards per game on the season. As was stated above, the one upside that must be mentioned for Bourne is his affinity for finding the ball in the endzone. Most impressive of all, may have been his Week 14 performance against the Saints in which he had three receptions for two touchdowns. It’s clear that he is somebody who Kyle Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo trust in the end zone which gives him some upside at a low price.
Playoff performance
Bourne was able to find the endzone once again against the Vikings in the Divisional round, when he had three receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown. The following week, he recorded only one reception for six yards against Green Bay. There was an overall lack of production for 49ers receivers in that game, as they abandoned the pass game and allowed Raheem Mostert to run all over the Packers for 220 yards and four touchdowns. Garoppolo attempted only eight passes in that entire game.
Matchup
The Kansas City Chiefs have struggled against the run all season, allowing the 7th highest average rush yards per game to opponent. They appear to be less friendly through the air, as they rank 5th in points allowed against opponents’ wide receivers in DraftKings contests and 2nd on Fanduel. There is a chance the 49ers stick with what’s been working and continue to pound the ball on the ground. If they find success with this strategy early, there may be limited opportunity for receivers, as we saw against the Packers. This would significantly limit Bourne’s upside, as he already receives a low volume of targets to begin with.
DFS pricing and analysis
Kendrick Bourne comes at a discount in DFS contests for Super Bowl 54, but his low usage limits his value. He is a boom or bust play, as he has been highly touchdown dependent all season. He may be worth a flier as a flex option in DraftKings, but odds are he does not pay off as a captain. He is a gamble as well in Fanduel, but has more upside than some other similarly valued options around that price point.
