Jarvis Landry single-handedly beats NFC in Pro Bowl Dodgeball

The Pro Bowl may not get a lot of love, but the implementation of various skill challenges and other contests has offered a fun alternative. On Thursday, the NFL held its dodgeball contest between the AFC and NFC. At one point, the NFC had four players still alive, while the AFC was down to teammates Jarvis Landry and Nick Chubb. That’s when things got nuts.

Landry threw balls back to the NFC and decided he was prepared to win this by catching their attempts. He caught two quickly and suddenly it was even at two apiece with Landry and Chubb facing Jaylon Smith and Davante Adams. Chubb was quickly eliminated on a caught throw, leaving Landry on his own.

Davante Adams pulled a Dee Ford and went offsides to get eliminated. Smith tried to catch Landry off guard, but Landry caught a throw to eliminate Smith and get the win for the AFC.

There is no wagering on the skills challenges, but I can only imagine how haywire the live betting would have been on this. When the NFC took a 4-2 edge, I suspect they’d have been somewhere in the -400 or -500 range. When Landry was softly tossing the balls back to the NFC, I can’t imagine how bettors would have viewed that. Do you back his supreme confidence, or do you think he’s being silly and instead back the NFC?

After he eliminated the two players, I have to think the AFC would have moved into favored status. Even when Chubb got eliminated, I suspect bettors would have continued backing the AFC given what we were seeing from Landry. Regardless, once Adams messed up, it was all downhill from there.
