The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers square off in Super Bowl 54 on Sunday, February 2nd. We’ll be breaking down everything you need to know to prepare your daily fantasy football lineups for the big game. We’re starting with a player-by-player preview for the skill position players on the two teams.

Jeff Wilson is fourth on the 49ers depth chart, but has impressed when rare opportunities have arisen. Wilson signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and spent much of the season on the practice squad. Injuries late in the season resulted in a promotion and a couple December starts. In 2019, he opened the season on the practice squad, but a Tevin Coleman injury in Week 1 opened the door for another chance. He’s been on the 53-man roster ever since.

Season performance

Wilson was promoted to the active roster in Week 2, and quickly established himself as the team’s short yardage option. He received 18 carries over the first two weeks and punched in four touchdowns across the two games. He moved back and forth between active and inactive from there and the first two weeks were the peak of his 2019 season. He had a 25-yard touchdown reception against the Cardinals in Week 11, but otherwise saw few touches.

Playoff performance

Wilson has been inactive the first two games of the playoffs. Tevin Coleman dislocated his shoulder in the NFC Championship Game, and his status is still uncertain for the Super Bowl. If Coleman is unable to play, Wilson will likely be active.

Matchup

The Chiefs run defense struggled early in the season, but has come on strong lately. They ranked 27th in yards per attempt (4.8) this season, but ranked 14th over the past three games (4.2). Wilson’s value is primarily as a touchdown threat. The Chiefs ranked eighth in opponent red zone touchdown scoring percentage.

DFS pricing and analysis

Wilson would not be a captain play, and so his $1,000 flex value makes him a dirt cheap punt play. Wilson is only an option if Coleman is inactive, so this will be something to track heading into game week. Coleman’s shoulder dislocation was described as the “Lethal Weapon” variety, meaning he could pop it back into place himself. Kyle Shanahan thinks he’ll have a “good chance” to play, but the injury report will tell us more. If Coleman gets in a limited workout next week, he’ll likely end up a game-day decision. Wilson is not a great option even if Coleman sits, but if you want to roll the dice on Wilson’s early season red zone prowess, he could get some opportunities in what should be a high scoring game.
