The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers square off in Super Bowl 54 on Sunday, February 2nd. We’ll be breaking down everything you need to know to prepare your daily fantasy football lineups for the big game. We’re starting with a player-by-player preview for the skill position players on the two teams.

Harrison Butker has been a solid kicker so far in his three years in the league. Drafted in the seventh round in 2017 by the Panthers, but was waived in favor of veteran Graham Gano. Butker was then signed off the Panthers practice squad by the Chiefs. In his first game, he converted a game-winning field goal against Washington, then converted all five field goals he attempted and three extra points the following week against the Texans. It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

Season performance

Butker led the NFL in in 2019 with 34 made field goals, missing four total, three from outside 50 yards and one under 39 yards. He led all kickers in fantasy points in 2019 and hit 10 or more DraftKings points in 10-of-16 regular season games. In terms of points scored in real football, he led the league with 147 and tied with Will Lutz and Matt Gay with 13 made field goals over 40 yards.

Playoff performance

In Butker’s two playoff games this season, he’s attempted one field goal from 24-yards and made it while making 11 extra points and missing one. The only trouble for Butker’s fantasy performance is Patrick Mahomes being so efficient at scoring touchdowns that he doesn’t give Butker chances to kick field goals. Usually that isn’t the case, as the Chiefs strong offense constantly has their team in field goal range, which inevitably gives Butker a chance to kick enough to put up strong statistics.

In the regular season, the 49ers defense held kickers to just 26 field goal attempts, the fourth-fewest in the league. They also gave up 30 extra point attempts, the eighth-fewest in the league. No team attempted more than two field goals against them and only five teams hit two field goals. But, the 49ers also weren’t +1.5-point underdogs in a game with a 54-point over/under. They were underdogs in New Orleans with a 45-point over/under and Will Lutz ended up kicking two field goals and four extra points for the biggest fantasy kicker game against the 49ers on the season.

DFS pricing and analysis

He’s not cheap due to his No. 1 kicker season, but Butker has plenty of upside in this game and he can be used for some cost-savings without a ton of risk.
