Powell won’t undergo surgery right now while both side weigh their options. I would be surprised if that wasn’t the case, however, and this type of injury will be incredibly difficult for Powell to come back from.
Dallas Mavericks PF Dwight Powell is believed to have suffered a season-ending torn right Achilles tendon, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday night.

Powell left early in Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers after sustaining the injury and was unable to return. He played nine minutes and scored just one point with three rebounds prior to exiting. Powell was down in pain when he suffered the injury and it’s a big blow to the Mavericks, who just got Kristaps Porzingis back from injury.
Fantasy Basketball analysis: Dallas Mavericks PF Dwight Powell
With Powell out, the Mavericks are going to have to lean on Porzingis and Maxi Kleber as the two front court bigs. Boban Marjanovic should see additional minutes off the bench, but we all know Boban doesn’t get big minutes due to his size. Dorian Finney-Smith should see more usage in smaller lineups, though the Mavericks should explore outside options with Powell out long term.
