San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman suffered a dislocated shoulder in the NFC Championship Game, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Coleman was able to pop his shoulder back into place, per Matt Barrows. The team is awaiting imagery, but Shanahan said he “expects him to have a good chance to play,” per beat writer Nick Wagoner.
The 49ers have two weeks off until Super Bowl Sunday. If additional damage does not show up in the MRI, it would likely simply be a matter of rest for the shoulder to recover. The 49ers don’t have to release an injury report until next week in Miami, so we’re left to wait and see.
Raheem Mostert replaces Coleman as the No. 1 back for the time being. Mostert was impressing on Sunday before Coleman got hurt, and dominated once he took over the starting role. Mostert rushed for 220 yards and four touchdowns, putting together one of the greatest rushing performances in NFL playoff history.
If Coleman is unable to go, the 49ers have depth to make up for it. Mostert would start, Matt Breida would become the No. 2, and regularly inactive Jeff Wilson would be the third back and generally handle short yardage work.
