The Denver Nuggets are set to face the Minnesota Timberwolves for MLK Day at 8:00 p.m. ET. The Nuggets will visit the Timberwolves after having lost to the Indiana Pacers in their previous game. Denver is third in the Western Conference and trails the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers. Minnesota, on the other hand, are looking to snap a five-game losing streak. It has continued to struggle following the return of Karl-Anthony Towns, who has missed an extended period of time this season dealing with a knee injury and sickness.
Captain’s Picks
KAT ($16,200) is still getting back into the flow of things following his length absence, but remains the Timberwolves’ top scorer and rebounder. He tallied 27 points in his first game of 2020 and has logged at least 27 minutes in each of his two appearances in January. Four of KAT’s 13 made field goals this month have come from beyond the arc, and his offensive versatility should work well against a less mobile big like Nikola Jokic away from the basket.
Jokic ($15,300) is one of the most complete centers in basketball though, and does everything you want from a fantasy prospective. He scores, distributes, and rebounds at a high level and has recorded a double-double in four of his last five games. Denver’s offense runs through Jokic, and he’s a quality captain’s pick in basically any contest he’s available for because of his diverse skill set.
FLEX Options
Michael Porter Jr. ($8,400) is finally getting a chance to show what he can do with consistent minutes. The second-year swingman has logged at least 23 minutes in three straight contests and has been a double-digit scorer his last four games. Although he had an off night against the Pacers, injuries to Paul Millsap, Gary Harris, and Jamal Murray have opened the door for him assume a larger role.
Monte Morris ($5,000) has stepped into a starting role while Murray is sidelined with an ankle injury. He hasn’t had a breakout performance yet, but he’s a value play should log around 25 minutes in every game Murray misses moving forward. Morris has legitimate playmaking chops and just needs a hot shooting night to really get going.
