Derrick Henry scores early TD for balanced Titans offense vs. Chiefs

Final update: Henry only got three more carries after the break and finished with 69 rushing yards on 19 attempts. Tennessee halted its ground attack in an attempt to keep up with Kansas City’s high-powered offense, but fell short.

Halftime update: Henry logged eight more carries in the second quarter and tallied 30 more yards on the ground, giving him 62 rushing yards in the contest. He had another opportunity to score from the goal line, but the Titans opted to rely on some trickery by throwing a touchdown pass to offensive lineman Dennis Kelly. Henry should still be a force to be reckoned with for the remainder of the game.

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry is off to a strong start against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC title game. He rushed for 32 yards on eight carries in the first quarter to help his team mount a 10-7 lead at Arrowhead stadium before the Chiefs.

Tennessee has surprisingly showcased a more balanced offensive attack early on, as Ryan Tannehill threw nine passes to match Henry’s eight rushing attempts in the first quarter, totaling 83 yards. That’s only five yards shy of his playoff high (88) this year. He’s connected on passes to A.J. Brown, Jonnu Smith, Corey Davis, MyCole Pruitt and Adam Humphries.

Henry is well on his way to logging at least 30 carries for a fourth straight game, his production has helped limit Kansas City’s time with the ball.
