Best DFS choice between Aaron Rodgers vs. Jimmy Garoppolo in NFC title game

Are either of these QBs worth plugging into your DFS line-ups this weekend? We break down the Conference Championship matchup.

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers will face off against Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers this weekend with a trip to the Super Bowl at stake. Which of these quarterbacks will give your DFS line-ups the biggest boost for the lowest price? We break down the fantasy implications below.

Fantasy football advice, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo

The 49ers easily handled the Minnesota Vikings last weekend, as they pulled away in the second half and never looked back. They did much of their damage on the ground, and did not need to lean on the passing game to secure the victory. Garoppolo threw for 131 yards, one touchdown, and one interception on 19 pass attempts. He finished the game with 8.1 fantasy points. Garoppolo only managed to score more than 18 fantasy points four times this season, with two of those games coming against the Arizona Cardinals. The 49ers have won games with their defensive prowess and three headed backfield committee all season, leaving little room for fantasy dominance from Garoppolo. He is priced accordingly in DFS contests this week with a Classic price tag of $5,200, and a Showdown Captain Mode price of $8,200 and $12,300 as your captain.

Garoppolo is a discounted option, but that does not necessarily make him a value play. Use him only if you need to save money on the position, but know that the chance of a big performance is slim based off of his season long stats and the 49ers offensive approach.

Fantasy football advice, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers

Despite lacking an arsenal of weapons to target through the air, Rodgers managed a solid performance in the divisional round, as he passed for 243 yards and two touchdowns on 27 pass attempts. Nearly half of those targets went to Davante Adams as he hauled in eight of 11 targets for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Rodgers may be down yet another weapon this weekend as Allen Lazard, who has made a surge at the end of this season, was a limited participant at practice on Wednesday. His status is one to monitor. When facing a formidable pass defense such as the 49ers, who have allowed an average of only 169 pass yards/game on the season, you want as many healthy options as possible.

Rodgers is the quarterback with the second highest price in DFS this weekend, with a price tag of $6,100 in Classic games and $10,000/$15,000 in Showdown Classic mode. Rodgers’ talent is undeniable, but with a dearth of weapons and an extremely tough match-up he may be overpriced, particularly in Classic games. It may be worth the extra $1,600 to grab Patrick Mahomes or Ryan Tannehill is a value buy at $5,500 with significant upside. He’s worth trying to fit into Showdown line-ups, though his price as a captain may be a bit steep for his upside.
