Davis Bertans, Norman Powell lead NBA waiver wire mid-week adds

We’re mid-way through Week 13 of the NBA season and mid-way through the entire season as a whole. On Wednesday’s on DraftKings Nation, we take a look at some potential fantasy basketball waiver wire pickups to boost your squad the rest of the way. If you’re in a fantasy league that doesn’t allow rolling pickups or your lineup locks at the beginning of the week, don’t fret, these are players available in most ESPN leagues that should be around when the opportunity arises.

Davis Bertans, PF/C, Washington Wizards (61.8 percent on ESPN)

Bertans returned to the lineup from a quad injury last Friday, scoring 14 points in 21 minutes with seven boards. He built on that performance with 18 points and four 3-pointers against the Utah Jazz on Sunday. It’s only a matter of time before Bertans gets back into the starting lineup, and even if he doesn’t he’d be a valuable asset off the bench. If you’re in a shallow league (8-10 teams) then Bertans is likely still available and is a good source of 3s. The Wizards play Wednesday night vs. the Bulls and only have one more game this week, but next week they’ve got four contests.

Norman Powell, SG/SF, Toronto Raptors (41.7 percent)

The Raptors are finally getting healthy with Powell, Pascal Siakam and Marc Gasol all expected back by Wednesday night vs. the Thunder. Powell returned to the lineup on Sunday vs. the Spurs, scoring 21 points in 31 minutes with four 3-pointers. As long as Fred VanVleet is sidelined, Powell should start at SG and play 30+ minutes per game. Like Bertans, Powell is available in most shallow leagues and is a good source of 3-pointers. Even when FVV returns, Powell should be the first guard off the bench and is a key 3-and-D swingman, which will help maintain his value.

Eric Gordon, SG/SF, Houston Rockets (21.2 percent)

If you haven’t caught on yet, now you must be sensing some sort of trend, right? Another 3-point shooter! Gordon has been back in the Rockets’ lineup since the end of December and has scored in double figures in each game he’s played. Houston has been getting PG Russell Westbrook regular rest and the Rockets rotation is already really thin. Gordon should start to see 30+ minutes more consistently and has found his shooting stroke since returning. He’s knocked down at least three outside shots in five of six games. I’d consider Gordon more of a deep-league pickup, think 12 or 14 team leagues.
