Redskins tight end Jordan Reed, dealing with a concussion, was officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday’s injury report. It has since been reported that he will be out this week.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network tweeted on Saturday that the team did not expect to have Reed dressed on Sunday. Tight end J.P. Holtz was promoted from the practice squad, too, another sign pointing toward Reed sitting out. Head coach Jay Gruden said the team would know more about his availability on Saturday, but there’s yet to be any official word from Washington. Rapoport added to the news on Saturday afternoon, confirming that Reed would not play.
Reed first suffered the concussion in a joint practice against the Falcons back on Aug. 22. He’s still in the league’s concussion protocol and has not been cleared for contact.
Last season, toe and foot problems limited Reed to 13 games, which was actually the second-highest for any single season of his career. He’s a talented player when he’s on the field, but that just doesn’t happen with much regularity.
Fantasy impact: With Reed out, Vernon Davis will get the start at tight end for Washington. He’s probably best avoided in whatever fantasy format you’re playing.
