Heading into the season opener, there’s plenty of unknowns when it comes to the Packers’ offense. We know new coach Matt LaFleur has implemented a new scheme, but how will that impact players not named Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams? When it comes to Geronimo Allison, we’re still not sure how many looks he’ll get Week 1, plus traveling to face the Bears presents possibly the toughest opening matchup.
Reports out of camp have Allison lining up primarily in the slot to start the season. This gives him a little bit of upside vs. Chicago, since we can expect most of their attention to go towards Rodgers and Adams. Marquez Valdes-Scantling is expected to be the WR2 on the opposite side of the field to Adams, running mostly deep routes. There’s also Jimmy Graham in the mix and we’ve heard LaFleur will use RB Aaron Jones in the passing game. The only saving grace for Allison is he may see a lot of quick routes to suppress the Bears’ pass rush.
Fantasy Impact: If you’re considering Allison in season long, it’s probably best to wait and see what this new-look Packers offense, well, looks like. If the matchup were a bit better, Allison isn’t a bad FLEX play. But considering it’s Week 1 and it’s the Thursday night game, you don’t want to hamstring yourself out the gate. It’s best to play it safe and look to potential options Sunday or Monday night.
