The Washington Nationals host the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Wild Card game on Tuesday, October 1st, to kick off the 2019 Major League Baseball playoffs. First pitch is scheduled for 8:08 p.m. on Tuesday, with the game airing on TBS. The Nationals are -167 on the moneyline at DraftKings Sportsbook, while the Brewers are +148. The winner of the game advances to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS.
The Nationals clinched the home field advantage on Saturday, and awaited the result of Sunday’s games to find out if they would face the Brewers or the St. Louis Cardinals. The Nationals announced on Friday that Max Scherzer would get the start in the game. There is a debate as to whether or not he or Stephen Strasburg has been the better pitcher this year, but Scherzer is their ace and thus it’s no surprise he got the call. Nationals manager Davey Martinez said that Strasburg and fellow starter Patrick Corbin would both be on the Wild Card round roster and available out of the bullpen.
Meanwhile, Brewers are going with All Star Brandon Woodruff. The Brewers skipped his scheduled start over the weekend, and announced Sunday evening that he would get the start against Scherzer. Woodruff made one start against the Nationals this season, giving up one earned run over six innings in a victory. Scherzer has similar numbers, although he gave up a second unearned run in his start.
