What to do with Adrian Peterson, Chris Thompson in Week 4 fantasy football

Washington’s running backs have been less than stellar in the ground game, but one offers some upside in the passing game. We break down Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson in Week 4 fantasy football.

Washington is scuffling along at 0-3, and looks to get in the win column when they travel to face the New York Giants in Week 4. Washington saw the worst of Case Keenum this past Monday against the Chicago Bears, and with Terry McLaurin questionable with a hamstring injury, one has to wonder if they try and lean more on their ground game.

Adrian Peterson took over as the running down back when Derrius Guice got hurt. Peterson has struggled mightily, rushing for 62 yards on 22 carries with one touchdown in his two starts. Chris Thompson has stuck primarily to his traditional passing game work, catching 16 passes for 195 yards. He had five rushing attempts the first two weeks, but then had seven for 29 yards unexpectedly against the Bears.

Fantasy analysis: If Washington is going to break out, it would be against a Giants defense that ranks 31st in DVOA. They’ve ranked 11th worst in fantasy points allowed to running backs, so there are some opportunities here. Case Keenum was a disaster against the Bears, so a short passing game emphasis could bode well for Chris Thompson. As for AP, if you’re stuck with a bye week problem, you should start him, but otherwise, it’s hard to justify moving him into your lineup.

Recommendation: Adrian Peterson: Sit — Chris Thompson: Start in PPR leagues
