Teams don’t use second-round picks on running backs so they can sit them on the bench. That’s certainly been the case with Miles Sanders, the Philadelphia Eagles rookie. He had his busiest day yet in Week 3, carrying the ball a team-high 13 times for 53 yards and adding another 73 yards on two catches.
The only problem—two fumbles. But, hey, that’s why pencils have erasers, right? The Eagles aren’t likely to bury him on the bottom of the depth chart based on one game with two rookie mistakes.
He’s part of a committee anyway, albeit the one who’s seeing more playing time than his peers. So what about Week 4 when Philly goes on the road to play the Packers?
Last week the Eagles had Sanders all over the field. And even though he saw fewer than 50 percent of the total offensive snaps, he got work out of the backfield and lined up as a receiver. He’s going to continue to be a part of that offense—we just don’t know how big that part’s going to be yet.
Fantasy impact: Philadelphia will have Alshon Jeffrey back this week, and that means they won’t have to rely as much on the running backs for targets. The other thing to consider is that this is still a committee. Sanders had a touchdown vultured last week by Jordan Howard. Another thing to consider is that the Packers defense is actually pretty good. That unit hasn’t allowed an opponent to score more than 16 points in a game this season, and deserves more credit for Green Bay’s 3-0 start than Aaron Rodgers.
