The tight end position is one of the hardest to find any semblance of depth in fantasy football. After the big names up top, there is a sizable drop-off to the next tier, and after that group there has been a veritable cliff to the next tier. With bye weeks now getting going, it’s going to be even harder to figure out your best option at the position. And so, let’s look at the top tight ends still available in more than 50 percent of leagues, based on ESPN ownership as of Monday evening.
Will Dissly, Seattle Seahawks (27.3 percent)
Dissly was slow out of the gate in Week 1 with one reception for 12 yards, but over the past two weeks he has hauled in 11 receptions for 112 yards and three touchdowns. He is currently the seventh-ranked tight end in fantasy scoring, ahead of names like Delanie Walker and Zach Ertz. He benefited from a garbage time TD in Week 3, but he’s becoming a regular target for Russell Wilson and is worth an add.
Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys (46.2 percent)
Witten is about as un-sexy a tight end as you’re going to find, and yet he remains effective. He was held out of the end zone in Week 3, but had a season-high 54 yards. He’s a capable target who is a strong red zone presence. If you have George Kittle on your roster, Witten at New Orleans would be a strong fill-in for Kittle’s Week 4 bye.
Jordan Akins/Darren Fells, Houston Texans (0.3/0.0 percent)
The Texans tight ends certainly came out of nowhere. They were non-existent the first two weeks, but combined to catch eight passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns. Fells led the duo with five receptions, while Akins led with 73 yards and two touchdowns. If the Texans continue to keep Akins and Darren Fells involved in the game-plan, both could continue to hold some value as bye week options.
Dawson Knox, Buffalo Bills (0.3 percent)
The Bills spent a third round pick on Knox, and he had a modest breakout performance in Week 3. He caught three passes, including one touchdown and a team-leading 67 yards. Knox’s value hinges for the time being on Tyler Kroft’s ankle injury. Kroft suffered the injury during the lead up to Week 3 and seems unlikely to play in Week 4. If Knox can put together another solid outing against the Patriots this weekend, he could supplant Kroft on the depth chart.
