In case you were not on Twitter for a couple weeks and missed the fun, first of all, sorry. You missed some of the season’s finest memes thanks to ESPN’s cheesy “out indefinitely” graphic featuring New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold, who has mono.
The second-year signal caller had a decent start to his season, throwing for 175 yards and a touchdown and no turnovers, against the Bills. It wasn’t much for fantasy points, but it was enough to buoy fan confidence and make him an intriguing name to watch in fake football. Then the kissing disease got him.
Darnold has said that he hopes to be back for the Jets’ Week 5 game against the Eagles, after a bye. Mono’s one of those things that doesn’t show up in the NFL all that often (ever?), so it’s not like we’re working off an established timeline here.
Fantasy impact: Without Darnold, it would have been Trevor Siemian, but his season ended with an ankle injury last week. Luke Falk is the next man up, and you can pretty much avoid anyone on the Jets as long as that’s the case.
