How to handle Michael Gallup injury in Week 3 fantasy football

Dallas will be without Gallup for a few games. Here’s what that means for fantasy lineups.

Anytime a player’s listed opponent reads “MIA,” fantasy owners know that they have to start that guy. A game against the Miami Dolphins this season is a glorified seven-on-seven practice where skill players can pad the stat sheet. Unfortunately for Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup and anyone who picked him up off the waiver wire a couple weeks go, he is going to miss that opportunity.

Gallup wasn’t on the field for the fourth quarter of last week’s win over Washington. He hurt his knee in that game, resulting in a torn meniscus. He underwent arthroscopic surgery this week, and will likely miss up to four weeks, according to reports.

The second-year receiver figured big into the new Cowboys offense. He had already accumulated 226 yards on 13 catches as a solid second look with defenses forced to key on Amari Cooper.

Keep an eye on the news about Gallup. If he’s only out two weeks, that puts him back in time to face the Packers in Week 5. Four weeks means he’d be back for a Week 7 divisional game against the Eagles, but with a bye after that, the team could always opt to give him an additional week to get back up to speed.

Fantasy impact: Cooper is still the No. 1 WR in Dallas, so Gallup’s injury shouldn’t change his status at all. The one to watch is Devin Smith, who will replace Gallup on the outside. He caught three passes for 74 yards and a touchdown last week, and a date with the Dolphins would be a great way to prove he deserves even more looks.
