How to handle Marlon Mack injury in Week 3 fantasy football

Mack is dealing with a foot injury. Here’s what that means for your fantasy decisions.

Editor’s update 8:36 a.m.: Mack is likely to play on Sunday vs. the Falcons, according to Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter, but it will not be formally decided until he has conducted a pre-game workout. He plays at 1 p.m. ET, so you should know by 11:30 a.m. when inactives are announced.

The Indianapolis Colts included running back Marlon Mack’s name on the injury report this week. He is dealing with a foot injury that kept him out of practice Wednesday and Thursday. He was able to get some work in on Friday, but was limited. That sets up the question of whether or not he’ll play this week, and if he does just how much work is he going to get?

Mack had an explosive start to the season, racking up 174 yards and a touchdown against the Chargers. He only managed 51 yards on 20 carries in a slugfest against Tennessee last week. But despite the low output last week, running backs who get 20 carries or more on a weekly basis are a rarity in today’s NFL. That makes him a guy who should be in your lineup every week, as long as he’s healthy.

Fantasy impact: Practicing, even in a limited role, on Friday bodes well for Mack playing this week. The problem, for fantasy purposes, is that we just don’t know how close he is to 100 percent, and if it’s close enough that he can have an impact. The Falcons are a good matchup for a running back, but with Mack’s health still an unknown, you might want to think about snatching Jordan Wilkins if you can.
