Just because a defense holds an opponent down the first two weeks of the season, it certainly does not guarantee success moving forward. Selecting fantasy defenses is all about matchups. Here are three of the worst values for defenses in DFS play this week.
Ravens (@ Kansas City) $2,500
Stay far away from the Baltimore Ravens defense this week. The team has looked good on defense two weeks in a row, but that came against a tanking Dolphins team and a Cardinal offense with a rookie quarterback throwing the ball. Baltimore’s first real test comes against what some would say is the best offense in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs. Even a good defensive effort can still give up a lot of points because nobody has found a way to stop Patrick Mahomes to this point.
Eagles (vs. Detroit) $3,500
With the amount of injured quarterbacks early in the season, we can find better value going after a defense in Week 3 than the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite consistently being a non-threatening team, Detroit still has the ability to put up points with veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. It’s the defense that continues to fail them. With Philadelphia coming in as the third-highest priced defense, we can do better than that.
Steelers (@ San Francisco) $2,300
Motivation is a factor when selecting defenses. Do the players really want to be there? The Steelers just lost Ben Roethlisberger for the rest of the 2019 season and began with an 0-2 record. Despite getting rid of headaches Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell, the season could not have started much worse for the Steelers. It will be interesting to see how the locker room bounces back from a rocky beginning, but expect San Francisco to put up some points against a beaten up Steelers team.
