The Dallas Cowboys are monster favorites against the Miami Dolphins in Week 3, installed at -22.5 at DraftKings Sportsbook. The line opened at 21, and it’s not all that surprising the money has been backing the Cowboys. The Dolphins are the worst team in the NFL, and are putting together a historically bad performance in the early part of the season.
Considering how bad the first two weeks have gone, it’s no surprise Dolphins head coach Brian Flores has decided to make a significant change. Flores is benching Ryan Fitzpatrick and installing Josh Rosen as the starting quarterback. Miami acquired Rosen from Arizona in April after the Cardinals drafted Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall pick. Fitzpatrick opened the season as the starter, but Rosen replaced him midway through the Dolphins 43-0 loss to the Patriots in Week 2.
The line has not changed with the change at quarterback, and there’s really no reason for it to change for the time being. The Dolphins stink no matter who is back there at quarterback. Rosen faced a bad situation in Arizona, and it’s managed to get worse for him in Miami. He’s got Kenyan Drake as his running back, and DeVante Parker and Mike Gesicki as arguably his two best pass catchers. It’s not going to be pretty.
There is one interesting number that supports Miami. Dating back to 1984, eight teams have been favored by at least 20 points in a regular season contest. The favorite failed to cover in all eight games. Miami is looking historically bad, but that’s something to keep in mind.
