4 best running backs available on fantasy waiver wire for Week 3

The pickings are growing slim at running back only two weeks into the season, but we’ve got a few options for the Week 3 fantasy football waiver wire.

Whether your fantasy team is 2-0 or 0-2 through the first two weeks of the season, it’s always important to be continuously taking stock of your roster. Adding the right players early on can make a huge difference over the course of the long haul. If you’re looking for help at running back, consider adding the following players off waivers, who are all still available in the majority of Yahoo! leagues.

Chris Thompson, Washington (48 percent rostered)

With Derrius Guice (knee) on IR, Thompson and Adrian Peterson will continue to share the workload in Washington’s’ backfield. Thompson is the preferred option on passing downs and caught five of seven targets for 48 yards in Week 2. With Washington likely to play behind a lot, targets should be bountiful for Thompson moving forward, making him a great option in PPR leagues.

Carlos Hyde, Houston Texans (43 percent)

Hyde looked to be on his way to potentially being released by the Chiefs after falling down their depth chart, but they were able to extract some value out of him by completing a deal with the Texans. Even with Duke Johnson there to battle him for work, Hyde has racked up 173 yards on 30 carries across the first two weeks. Don’t expect him to be involved in the passing game, but that doesn’t mean he still can’t provide value.

Jaylen Samuels, Pittsburgh Steelers (35 percent)

Things are starting to get ugly for the Steelers, who have lost quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) for the season. James Conner also left Sunday’s game with a knee injury, although initial reports for his prognosis moving forward have been encouraging. If he were to miss any time, expect Samuels to step into a starting role.

Raheem Mostert, San Francisco 49ers (16 percent)

With Tevin Coleman (ankle) missing Sunday’s game against the Bengals, Mostert was on the field for 47.2 percent of the 49ers’ offensive plays. He took advantage of his opportunity, turning 13 carries into 83 yards and catching three of his four targets for an additional 68 yards and a touchdown. He will continue to split time with Matt Breida, but he’s at least a viable option for however long Coleman is sidelined.
