The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a huge blow to their playoff chances with news that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is done for the season. Big Ben suffered an elbow injury in the team’s Week 2 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and an MRI revealed it will require surgery.
Mason Rudolph replaced Roethlisberger in the lineup, and had a decent performance. He completed 12 of 19 passes for 112 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception. The team will add a quarterback to the roster, but Rudolph will take over as the team’s starter for the rest of the season.
The end of Roethlisberger’s season does not end the Steelers playoff hopes, but they do take a huge hit. The Steelers were sitting at +2500 prior to Week 2 at DraftKings Sportsbook. Following the injury, they have been dropped to +6000. They were tied for 11th before the injury, and now sit tied for 19th.
The Sportsbook took down AFC North divisional odds, but they have returned with updated numbers. Prior to the injury, the Baltimore Ravens were favorites at +175, followed by the Steelers (+180), Browns (+188) and then Bengals (+2200).
Following the Steelers statement on Roethlisberger’s elbow, the Ravens take a bigger lead in the futures odds, and the Steelers are dropped to third in the division.
Ravens: -125
Browns: +200
Steelers: +425
Bengals: +2700
The Steelers travel to face the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3. A point has not been installed at the DraftKings Sportsbook as of this publishing.
