Nick Chubb, Baker Mayfield should benefit with Jets injuries

The Browns and Jets square off on Monday Night Football, and injuries are piling up for New York. We break down what injuries to C.J. Mosley and Quinnen Williams mean for the fantasy prospects.

The New York Jets host the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football in Week 2, and it is not looking good for Gang Green Nation. The Jets announced Sam Darnold will not play due to a case of mono, and now they will be without two key cogs on defense. Linebacker C.J. Mosley and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams have both been ruled out — due to a groin injury and ankle injury, respectively.

Mosley suffered his injury during the Jets Week 1 loss to Buffalo. He had a pick-six and five tackles prior to the injury, proving his value as a big ticket free agent addition. Williams was slow out of the gate after being selected third overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Jets will be looking for big things from Williams in the middle of their defense.

Fantasy impact: If you own the Jets defense, you might be best finding a new option. More importantly, if you own Nick Chubb, you could be in good shape. Chubb had a solid 2019 debut in spite of the Browns Week 1 issues, and removing Mosley in particular is a big boost. The loss of Mosley and Williams could also make life a little easier for Baker Mayfield and the Browns’ other skill position players. They’ve got a lot of work to do to improve on last week, but they are in a solid position against a short-handed Jets team.
