Start or sit Matt Breida in Week 2 fantasy football?

Matt Breida could star for the 49ers with Tevin Coleman injured

Breida’s Week 1 game for the 49ers wasn’t much to talk about. He finished with 15 carries for 37 yards and wasn’t able to find the end zone. He failed to haul in his only target although we have seen him pick up points via the passing game in previous years. Last season, he caught 27 passes for 261 yards.

We can’t look too much into last week’s game to figure out expected usage for Breida. The expected starting running back for the Niners, Tevin Coleman, went down with an ankle sprain, moving Breida from a backup to starter role.

The question becomes, will Breida have the backfield to himself or will he be splitting carries? My gut feeling, Breida will get most of the carries but will be in a timeshare with Raheem Mostert.

Fantasy Impact: Unless you are thin at running back, there are likely going to be better options than Breida. Not only will Mostert be involed, Jeff Wilson was called up from the practice squad and could also get a few touches. The matchup is also a bit of a concern. The Bengals’ defense looked stout in Week 1, holding Chris Carson to 46 yards on 15 carries.

Recommendation: Sit
