The Cincinnati Bengal declared A.J. Green out this week, according to the Friday injury report. That shouldn’t come as a surprise. The veteran wide receiver has been recovering from offseason ankle surgery, and we knew that he would miss time to start the season. The question is, how much time?
There was some good news this week. Green was out of his walking boot and running on a treadmill. Now, that’s still a long way from running at full speed and handling contact, but it is at least some progress.
The Bengals declined to put Green on injured reserve with a designation to return, which is a sign that they don’t believe he’ll be out a full eight games. However, he will be on the shelf for the foreseeable future. Keep your eyes peeled for when he goes from the treadmill to the practice field.
Fantasy Impact: The Bengals are obviously better off when they have Green in the lineup, but in his absence, they got a big contribution from John Ross (remember him?) in Week 1, who had the first triple-digit performance of his disappointing career.
