The 3 best values at running back in Week 2 DFS

Seven months waiting for football, and all of a sudden we’re already headed to Week 2 of the season. Time flies, and that means you can’t lose a minute identifying the best values to put in your next daily fantasy lineup. You can always pay big money for big producers, and in most cases, you will get the expected results. But weekly winners often feature some of the best-value players around the league.

Would you like to roster a lineup full of studs? Sure, but sadly you are limited to a budget you need to share between a bunch of spots. But that is not a problem. Here are three running backs on their way to provide the best value for Week 2. Pick them and enjoy the outcome!

Devin Singletary (BUF) - $4,200

The Bills edged the Jets by one point on Sunday. It took Singletary two quarters to start gaining steam, and that could make you think he wasn’t that valuable for Buffalo. He had four carries compared to Frank Gore’s 11. And there is where bad numbers end. By the end of the day, Singletary had racked up 70 yards on just four carries, all of them for first downs and of 10-plus yards, including a long 23-yard rush in a drive that ultimately ended in a touchdown. No player ran more efficiently on Week 1, and that can only bring more opportunities and big numbers.

Buffalo will remain in New Jersey to face the Giants in Week 2. I don’t have a doubt in my mind Singletary will see more and more snaps eating from Gore’s each passing week. He added 28 yards through the air too. Gore wasn’t even a pass-target once. The Giants ranked similarly to the Jets in defense against running backs last year. You won’t find a bigger bargain than the rookie at the position.

Matt Breida (SF) - $5,200

Everybody was high on Breida before the start of the season. Then Week 1 arrived and Breida kinda fell short of expectations. I wasn’t convinced by him nor San Francisco’s backfield situation at any point during the preseason. He was expected to share duties with Tevin Coleman, and indeed that was the case. All in all, Breida finished with 37 yards on 15 carries; nothing great. The good news for Breida, though, came with Coleman’s injury against Tampa Bay.

It looks like Breida was the go-to RB of the 49ers in Week 1, and it looks even clearer going forward. Raheem Mostert should not pose a threat and Coleman may be out for weeks (ankle). Unless San Francisco brings in a seasoned veteran, Breida will be a great week-to-week option. Next weekend’s matchup against Cincinnati is the best possible one. The Bengals allowed RBs to rack up the fourth- and second-most yards rushing and receiving in 2018.

Mark Ingram II (BAL) - $6,000

The Baltimore Ravens exploded out of the gate. Against the Dolphins, yes, but still. Even in a game in which Lamar Jackson finished with 324 passing yards and Robert Griffin III with 55, they only threw 26 passes while opting to rush the ball 46 times. Yes, it was mostly due to game script, but this is a run-first offense until Lamar shows long-term consistency in his passing. And Mark Ingram is primed to excel in it, as he finished his Week 1 performance with 107 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns.

Ingram has two things going his way in Week 2: RB2 Gus Edwards finished with 56 yards on 17 attempts and no touchdowns, which may limit his usage in Week 2; and Ingram will face Arizona’s defense next (the Cardinals limited Detroit in Week 1 but were ranked fourth-worst against the rush by DVOA in 2018). The upside for someone ranked 14th in RB salaries for Week 2 can’t be higher.
