The 3 worst WR values for Week 1 DFS

The NFL regular season is only days away, and with the NFL season comes the season for daily fantasy football lineups. If you’re a daily fantasy player, you know that a successful lineup has to have a solid combination of big-name star power players that are known commodities with a few high-upside players that provide a little more bang for your buck.

If you pay up for a big name in your daily fantasy lineup, you definitely cannot afford for that player to put up a dud of a game in your lineup.

So here are three wide receivers that will likely provide some of the worst value for Week 1. (Values from Draft Kings.)

Odell Beckham Jr. (CLE) - $8,100

The Cleveland Browns are the early fantasy darlings in 2019. It’s no surprise then that OBJ is the most expensive wide receiver in daily fantasy in Week 1. OBJ’s talent upside and the cannon arm of Baker Mayfield is definitely tantalizing, but there’s one problem: There are a lot of mouths to feed in Cleveland. In addition to OBJ, there’s also one of the best slot receivers in the NFL in Jarvis Landry, a solid pass-catching tight end in David Njoku, and a running back who’s no slouch catching out of the backfield in Nick Chubb.

Julio Jones (ATL) - $8,000

Julio has the same competition-for-targets issue as Beckham, but at at least Julio has a proven track record of elite production with players like Calvin Ridley and Mohamed Sanu around him. Julio’s problem in Week 1 of 2019 is a matchup issue — Julio is likely lining up against Xavier Rhodes of the Minnesota Vikings all game. Julio will still get his, but it will be tough for Julio to consistently win every matchup all game.

Amari Cooper (DAL) - $7,000

If Ezekiel Elliott fails to suit up for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, opposing defenses will not be forced to respect Dallas’s run game the same. With no Zeke, the New York Giants will likely focus in on Amari Cooper and not sell out to defend the run. Cooper had such a roller coaster of production with the Cowboys in 2018, the lack of a legitimate running game will likely only hurt Cooper’s chances at elite production in Week 1.
