The Seattle Seahawks lost a tough one in Week 14, but they also suffered a big injury in defeat. Running back Rashaad Penny injured his knee in the first quarter of the game and was ruled out before the end of that same quarter. He injured his knee on his first touch of the game, a 16-yard reception from Russell Wilson.

After the game, head coach Pete Carroll told the media the injury is an ACL sprain and it’s significant, according to beat writer Gregg Bell. Penny will likely undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the injury — specifically whether or not it’s a full tear of the ligament.

During the second half, Penny sent out a tweet that did not offer specifics, but had plenty of people figuring the injury was serious.

In his absence, C.J. Prosise will take over as Chris Carson’s backup. Penny had emerged as a strong complement, but his injury likely means Carson will return to more of a workhorse role.
