Opening lines for College Football Playoff released

LSU opens as double-digit favorite over OU. OSU vs. Clemson essentially a toss up. We break down the initial lines on DK Sportsbook.

The 2019 College Football Playoff field was set Sunday afternoon with LSU capturing the No. 1 overall seed after defeating the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game. Rounding out the field is Ohio State, Clemson and Oklahoma. So now that the matchups are set, let’s take a look at the opening lines and spread on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Clemson vs. Ohio State spread, money line

Spread: Ohio State (-1)
Money line: -110

Oklahoma vs. LSU spread, money line

Spread: LSU (-10)
Money line: LSU (-385), OU (+290)

It’s no surprise that Clemson-OSU is basically a toss up, right? OSU probably should have been No. 1 but LSU jumped them in the final rankings. Clemson is on a 28-game winning streak and are the defending champions, but haven’t really played anyone this season. From what I saw from the Buckeyes vs. Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship, I’d give the slight edge to Clemson at +1. They’ve got a bit of a chip on their shoulder and are a more complete team in my eyes.

Any team opening as a double-digit favorite in the CFP seems odd to me. I think you’ve got to give some credit to the Sooners for knocking off Baylor in a tight spot and winning a tough Big 12 conference. The Tigers dominated the No. 4 team and it got them the No. 1 seed. LSU looked unstoppable against Georgia, but this is the CFP and anything can happen. Oklahoma and coach Lincoln Riley are making their third straight appearance, so they’ve got some experience. I think ultimately this spread gets bet down a bit and I’d grab OU at these plus-odds now if I could.
