December 16th, UPDATE: The Lakers rolled to another easy win over the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday night. AD scored 27 points with 13 rebounds in the victory, overshadowed a bit by James, who had 32-13-7. Though Davis hasn’t really faltered in his performances, plus LA keeps winning and he’s a big reason why, we still saw AD’s odds drop this week. It may be a result of Giannis just running away with the award. It may be that James Harden’s scoring output this season would be too much for AD to overcome as well. Or LeBron will just always be ahead of him.
December 10th, UPDATE: Davis’ odds have jumped up big time since that 50-point outburst against the T-Wolves on Sunday. AD is now closing in on LeBron James for the 4th-best odds to win NBA MVP on DK Sportsbook at +750. If you were able to get in on Davis’ odds while they were at +1200, good on you, because it looks like AD isn’t going to stop, plus injuries don’t appear to be hampering his performance. He’s usually dealing with something, but for now, we can consider whatever it is minor at best. Davis could jump LeBron for MVP odds soon if he keeps this up.
December 9th, UPDATE: Davis had a monster night Sunday against the Timberwolves, dropping 50 points on an insane 20-of-29 shooting from the field. AD also added seven boards, six assists and four steals to his stat line, combining for over 70 points with LeBron James in the blowout win. The Lakers moved to 21-3 on the season, a half a game ahead of the Bucks for the best record in the NBA. Davis and James are the first Lakers teammates to combine for 70+ points since, well, Shaq and Kobe. That’s elite company and those two did a fair amount of winning during their time in L.A.
There was a lot of hype surrounding Anthony Davis’ move from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Los Angeles Lakers this season. Well, Davis has certainly lived up to it so far. Joining LeBron James in L.A., the Lakers are on top of the basketball world again, 20-3 and in first place in the Western Conference. The Lakers have won 13 of their past 14 games and haven’t lost since Nov. 10, nearly a month of basketball.
Davis isn’t going to put up the gaudy statistics he was throwing up with the Pels, but he doesn’t need to in order for the Lakers to win — which is the goal, right? But still, Davis is averaging 26.6 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game through 22 contests this season. He’s shooting under 50% from the field but is taking more 3-pointers — 3.3 per game, which would be a career high. AD is coming off 39 points in a win over the Blazers on Friday night, his sixth straight game with at least 25 points.
AD will obviously be competition for NBA MVP with teammate LeBron James (+700), as well as James Harden (+450) and Luka Doncic (+400) among West opponents. In the lead right now is Giannis Antetokounmpo (+175).
Anthony Davis NBA MVP odds: +1000
