Chiefs place Darrel Williams on injured reserve

The Chiefs backfield is kind of a mess right now. We break down the fantasy football implications heading into Week 14.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Thursday morning they have placed running back Darrel Williams on injured reserve. Williams injured his hamstring on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders, joining fellow running back Damien Williams on the sideline.

Darwin Thompson replaced Darrel in the lineup and was effectively the starting running back. Thompson rushed 11 times for 44 yards and one touchdown, leaping LeSean McCoy on the depth chart. McCoy has gotten starting opportunities previously, but ball security has been an issue.

Damien Williams is working back from a rib injury and was a DNP at practice on Wednesday. The Chiefs signed Spencer Ware on Tuesday in case Williams is unable to play on Sunday.

Fantasy football analysis: Chiefs running backs

Darrel did not seem like he was going to play this weekend, and this closes the deal on that. Damien not practicing on Wednesday is not a good first step for him, but if he can get in a limited workout on Thursday, he might be able to play on Sunday. If he does not practice on Thursday, it seems safe to assume Thompson will get the starting nod in Week 14.
