Brett Maher currently ranks seventh in total fantasy points for kickers while Eddy Pineiro ranks 30th. That coincides with their teams’ offensive output, as the Cowboys rank eighth in points while the Bears are 27th.
I don’t think it takes a fantasy football scholar to tell you Pineiro isn’t worth the trouble, especially in the fantasy playoffs, but what about Maher? His total for the year is good, but he’s coming off a game where he got negative points after missing two field goals against the Bills on Thanksgiving. He’s now missed nine out of 28 field goals.
Fantasy football analysis: Bears, Cowboys Ks Eddy Pineiro, Brett Maher
The Bears defense has been stingy to kickers this year, allowing the fifth-fewest fantasy points to kickers on the season. They’ve also allowed the ninth-fewest field goal attempts and the third-fewest extra-point attempts.
The weather in Chicago isn’t going to be as awful as it could be at this time of the year, but they are calling for 10-15 mph winds with gusts up to 20 mph. But the real trouble is Maher’s recent trouble getting the ball through the uprights, coupled with the Bears’ ability to keep teams from kicking field goals and extra points, especially at home.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Sit Pineiro and Maher.
