Amazingly, Jason Witten ranks 15th in overall fantasy points for tight ends this season but hasn’t topped 58 yards and has just three touchdowns. He has seen his targets rise of late, with a 6.6 average over his last five games and a 4.4 average over his first seven.
On Thanksgiving, Witten had his best game of the season and the only one where he has topped double-digit fantasy points in PPR leagues. If you are looking for upside in your fantasy playoffs, Witten isn’t likely to be your guy.
Fantasy football analysis: Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten
The Bears defense hasn’t been the unit it was last season, but they’re still good overall. They have had a slight weakness against tight ends this season, as they’ve allowed the tenth-most fantasy points to the position. That also bears out by Football Outsider’s metrics, as they rank them 24th at defending tight ends.
The Bears are better against wide receivers, so there is a chance Witten has a game where he is force-fed targets underneath. That puts his upside somewhere at the edge of Top-12 this week, but we’re looking for more than that in our fantasy playoffs.
