Two overvalued quarterbacks for wild card DFS

Wild card weekend is one of the best football weekends of the year for real football, but it also brings us a nice four-game slate in DFS. There are some quality value picks available at quarterback, but also some pricer selections you might want to be wary of. We broke down what signal callers in this weekend’s slate could be overvalued.

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills ($6,500)

Only the Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson ($6,800) and New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees ($6,600) have bigger price tags than Allen, and we find that confusing. The second-year signal caller has developed quite a bit as a field general since his rookie season, but hasn’t faced a turbulent playoff environment yet in his young career.

The 23-year-old is one of three starting quarterbacks in the wild card round who averaged less than 20 DKFP in 2019 and will play his first career postseason game on the the road against the Houston Texans. The Texans’ secondary leaves a lot to be desired, but there’s no telling how Allen will respond to the playoff experience. There are several safer plays you can make for cheaper.

Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans ($6,300)

Tannehill was great for the Titans in the second half of their season, but the Wild Card round will present him with a much more difficult challenge. Tennessee has the 2019 rushing champion in Derrick Henry but will face a New England Patriots team that’s top six against the run and top two against the pass. The Patriots excel at containing the featured skill players of the opponents and held Henry to 28 rushing yards when they faced him in the 2017 Divisional round.

While the Miami Dolphins did score 27 points to top New England at Gillette Stadium in Week 17, it’s unlikely the Patriots will slip up like that again. Tannehill has had seven consecutive multi-touchdown performances, but picking him against the defending champs on the road feels like a trap.
