For only seven games on Tuesday, boy do we have a lot of great point guard options to sift through. Luka Doncic takes on the Pelicans, James Harden will go up against the Spurs, and even LeBron James gets a shoutout with the Lakers in a tough matchup vs. the Nuggets.
Picking the right one will be crucial for DraftKings’ main seven-game NBA slate, so here we’ll take you through some of the top options at point guard.
Which stud point guard is worth paying up for?
Well, I listed a couple of strong names above, but I think the choice is obvious: Luka Doncic ($11,300). This is an outstanding game environment against the Pelicans, who are allowing 118.9 points per game this season. New Orleans ranks in the bottom five in a bunch of defensive categories, most notably opponent 3-point percentage (37.2). So Doncic should have his way in this matchup and any time he’s under $12K, I think we need to take advantage.
How can we get leverage in big tournaments?
Well, that’s pretty simple. We need to establish low ownership and high ceiling. Now, we can only project these two things, but the guy who stands out a bit is Russell Westbrook ($8,800). Harden ($12,500) has stolen the spotlight from Russ lately, playing hero ball on most nights. But I think Harden’s price is getting ridiculous and Westbrook’s is trending down. He should have low ownership and we know his ceiling is a triple-double, so at this price point, it gives us some salary relief and differentiates us from the field.
Where can we find value at point guard on the slate?
Opposite Doncic for one. Lonzo Ball ($5,400) is back from injury and is coming off 32 minutes in his previous game, which is encouraging. This game is perfect for Ball — up and down, high pace — so if he’s going to play around 30 minutes at this price, perfect. Expect high ownership though.
D.J. Augustin ($4,100) is playing increased minutes for the Magic and they’ll take on the worst defensive team in the league in the Wizards tonight. Augustin gives you a nice floor with his peripheral stats and his ownership shouldn’t be nearly as high as someone like Ball.
