The quarterback position was crucial in Week 16. Twelve QBs scored more than 20 DKFP, seven of which were priced at $6,000 or less. Now, we head into a main Sunday slate that will feature all but two teams, making your quarterback decision that much more important. Let’s take a look at some potential plays.
Tom Brady ($6,000) vs. MIA
Yes, I know, Brady isn’t “under” $6K, but bear with me. There’s no surprise to the story here. The Dolphins defense is one of the worst in the league in so many categories. Last week, it allowed Andy Dalton to complete 33 passes for 396 yards and four touchdowns. While that ceiling likely isn’t plausible for Brady, there’s certainly potential for the goat to throw multiple touchdowns. And with the second seed in the conference still up for grabs, the Patriots have every reason to keep their collective foot on the pedal. Back in Week 2, Brady threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns, racking up 24.66 DKFP. While he won’t have Antonio Brown (oh, how times change) like he did in that matchup, TB12 looked a bit more comfortable with his young receiving corps in Week 16 against the Bills.
Robert Griffin III ($5,100) vs. PIT
By no means do I think RGIII is a good play this week, and most of the solid picks are above $6K. The Steelers are allowing the sixth-fewest DKFP per game to opposing quarterbacks, so we know their defense is for real. We also know that the Ravens have nothing to play for, while the Steelers have everything to play for. And yet, here I am writing about Griffin III. This is strictly a GPP play. While the starters will be sitting, the Ravens offense should be operating in a similar style. And if they’re going to find any success, it will likely come from the mobile RGIII. And with Duck Hodges on the other side, there’s the possibility that the Ravens get good field position from turnovers.
Case Keenum ($4,500) at DAL
After taking over for the injured Dwayne Haskins Jr., Keenum threw for 158 yards and a touchdown while rushing one in from the goal line. He has been named the starter in the season finale against the Cowboys. Washington will be looking to play the spoiler, as the Boys need to get a win in order to have a shot at the division. Washington’s weapons came alive last week against the Giants, with three different receivers catching five or more balls. In Week 2 against Dallas, Keenum put up 16.74 DKFP and it wouldn’t be surprising to see similar numbers in Week 17. He’s not the most convincing option, but he allows you to spend up at other positions.
