Dalvin Cook ruled out, Alexander Mattison listed as questionable

The Vikings backfield is a mess. We break down the fantasy football implications for Week 16 Monday Night Football.

The Minnesota Vikings host the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football to close out Week 16, and they will not have running back Dalvin Cook for the game. The team announced on Saturday that Cook is officially out for the game.

That makes life easier if you roster Cook, but the Vikings report includes a bigger issue for other fantasy players. Backup running back Alexander Mattison is listed as questionable due to his ankle injury. Mattison did not practice on Thursday or Friday, but did get a limited session in on Saturday. He’ll be game-day decision. If he cannot play, Mike Boone would get the start at running back.

Fantasy football analysis: Vikings running backs

This is not ideal. The Vikings don’t play until Monday and it’s fantasy championship weekend. If you’ve got Mattison AND Boone, you’re in good shape against a bad Packers run defense. But if you only have one of them, you’re in a bad position. Ideally we hear something during the day on Sunday that makes this decision a little easier. Given that Mattison is banged up, Boone still might be worth a play even if Mattison is active.
