The Oakland Raiders are going to sit running back Josh Jacobs in Week 16 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Head coach Jon Gruden told the media the hope is Jacobs would be able to play in the team’s regular season finale against the Denver Broncos, according to beat writer Vic Tafur.
This means DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard will split work at running back in Week 16. Two weeks ago, Jacobs sat out and Washington led the team with 14 rushing attempts and six receptions. Richard finished with seven carries and two receptions.
The Raiders remain alive in the playoff race, albeit just barely. Gruden must hope that maybe the team stays alive into Week 17 and if Jacobs can go, so be it. If the Raiders are eliminated in Week 16, I suspect we see Jacobs placed on injured reserve for the final week. Whether he plays or not in Week 17 will only have bearing on daily fantasy football rather than the traditional variety.
