UPDATE
Will Grier is expected to get the nod on Sunday against the Colts according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
In his press gaggle on Monday, Panthers interim head coach Perry Fewell wouldn’t commit to Kyle Allen as the starter in Week 16. Allen has been absolutely dreadful of late and the Panthers have nothing to play for, so seeing what rookie Will Grier has after almost a season of work on the practice field looks like a salient move.
Allen has had enough talent around him to cover up some of his flaws but lately those flaws have dog-piled on each other. Since a four game winning streak which started by Allen throwing four touchdowns and no interceptions against the Cardinals in Week 3, his first game of the season, he’s hit the skids.
From Week 8 on, Allen has thrown 10 touchdowns to 15 interceptions and been sacked 35 times in eight games. His inability to face pressure has been his downfall. We don’t know if Fewell will give Grier the nod this week against the Colts but if he’s anywhere near ready, they should give him a shot.
Grier may end up hurting the Panthers fantasy players but it’s more likely he’d be about the same or possibly better than Allen. You’re playing Christian McCaffrey and D.J. Moore no matter who’s at quarterback and hopefully Grier would give the team a spark with some fresh blood under center.
