Toronto Raptors PG Kyle Lowry is becoming an interesting name when considering the current trade landscape in the NBA, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe discussed Sunday night. Woj and Lowe speculated at the possibility Lowry could be moved after signing a one-year extension this offseason. The veteran doesn’t really fit into Toronto’s long-term plans and Masai Ujiri has plans of locking up Fred VanVleet to a big contract as the future at PG for the Raps.
Woj and Lowe stated that the extension makes it easier for Ujiri to deal Lowry and even by moving the PG, the Raptors would likely still be competitive in the Eastern Conference this season depending on what the package is in return. Lowry is the type of player who could really swing the race to the NBA Finals. He just returned from a thumb injury and is working back to full strength, but is still averaging 18.9 points and 6.8 assists per game this season.
If Lowry were to be traded, well, FVV would become a very appealing fantasy basketball option the rest of the season. It may be wise in season-long formats to spark up a deal to acquire VanVleet now in anticipation that Lowry may get dealt. Even so, if it’s a dynasty or keeper league, FVV is the guy you want in the future.
