UPDATE: Jameis Winston is active and will start.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston fractured his thumb in Week 14, but is expected to play in Week 15. It was a hairline fracture, but he progressed throughout practice to the point that head coach Bruce Arians announced Friday he would start on Sunday.

Winston started the practice week mimicking drills without handling a ball. He then advanced to throwing tennis balls on Thursday and then regular footballs on Friday. He was listed as questionable due to the limited work early in the week, but is good to go.

Fantasy football analysis: Bucs QB Jameis Winston

The Lions have been a fairly middle of the road defense, with highs and lows throughout the season. Winston is having a strong season with Arians that has resulted in the fifth most fantasy points among quarterbacks.

Winston is a solid start even after the injury. In the second half last week with the fractured thumb, he completed 76 percent of his passes for 179 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. In the first half, he had completed 71 percent of his passes for 277 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s well worth starting this weekend. There will probably be interceptions, but his volume makes him a strong start.
