Austin Hooper returned to the field last week against the Panthers after missing three weeks with a sprained MCL. He ended up catching 2-of-6 targets for 32 yards and stopped his streak of touchdowns at four weeks.
His first game back was also his worst of the season as far as fantasy points are concerned. After a layoff like that against good linebackers, we can’t knock him too much. His track record this season is immaculate and he should be able to get back in the swing of things sooner than later.
Fantasy football analysis: Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper
This week the Falcons and Hooper get a tough test in San Francisco. Even after giving up three touchdowns to tight ends last week, the 49ers still rank fourth-best in fantasy points allowed to tight ends.
This isn’t the best spot for Hooper coming off his injury but he should be a target hog this week, as Calvin Ridley is done for the season and Julio Jones doesn’t look to be playing at 100 percent. I would be surprised if Hooper doesn’t see double-digit targets which gives him must-start status, even in a tough matchup.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Hooper.
